Miscellaneous

Not much new to report here. Hit quad aces last night and was able to extract some money from them. That was in the middle of two hours or so of pretty solid, if a bit cautious, 25PL play. Then I managed to throw away most of my profit in 10 minutes of truly foolish play.

I read the second volume of 100 Bullets last night and it was even better than the first, if only because many more aspects of the mystery are revealed and many more questions posed.

I also watched the season finale of Deadwood last night. A truly excellent show. At the end of the episode when the camera briefly touched on all the characters, highlighting various relationships, you had to admire the excellent job the cast and crew has done in establishing the thriving community of Deadwood in the minds of the audience. A remarkable task.

Dammit, you’ve intrigued me enough to want to read “100 Bullets” :) I saw that Amazon has them, so now it’s just a matter of ordering it. How many volumes are there in total?

Well, at the moment there are 6 volumes in print, but that takes you up to issue 42 (I believe issue 50 just saw print in regular form). But Azzarello has stated that he has plans to run for 100 issues, which would probably encompass in the neighbourhood of 15 volumes and a few more years.

If you’re looking to sample the wares risk-free, you can always try your local public library. I know many of them keep a good stock of graphic novels these days. Or take the plunge and grab one at Amazon, they actually aren’t that expensive. (someone heading to Amazon off a recommendation from me, maybe I should set up as an affiliate :))

I noticed off your regular weblog that you linked to Gaiman’s site. I assume this means you’ve read Sandman?

You know, you’d think I’d read Sandman. I got into Gaiman by reading his novels, and in my comic book days I never picked up any of the Sandman books. They’re still on my list of books to read, but I don’t know anyone who has them so I’ll have to break down and pick them up.

I saw the “100 Bullets” books at Amazon and Half.com pretty cheap, and I even saw This 100 Bullets game for the XBox which I might have to check out too.

So with all this new stuff to read and games to play, when am I going to get any poker in?

Somehow there is always time for poker. Yeah, I was reading a bit about the 100 Bullets video game as well, but I’m not sure how well something that is so heavily dialogue and plot driven will make the translation.

You’ve not read Sandman? Ack! Some of the best comic literature out there. I’ve got all ten volumes sitting on my bookshelf. Of course, it can end up being not to everyone’s taste, but excellent, excellent storytelling. Sandman I can virtually guarantee will be available at your local library. At least, it should be if you have any kind of self-respecting librarians.
